Hygge vs Lasso

A factual side-by-side of Hygge and Lasso for Shopify merchants choosing a branded checkout — including a worked pricing example.

Last updated 2018-10-20

If you're choosing between Hygge and Lasso for branded Shopify checkout, here's the honest comparison. Lasso is a real product with real strengths — we're not trash-talking. We just have a different set of trade-offs that we think are worth your time to consider.

When Hygge wins#

We're a better fit if:

  • Your margins are tight. A 4-5% fee delta on a $50K/month store is $2,000+/month back in your pocket — see the worked example below.
  • You want to own your customer data. Customers buying through Hygge land in your Shopify customer record with their email, address, and order history attached to your store, not a third-party MoR's database.
  • You've been turned down by Stripe or have a category Stripe is conservative about (digital goods, certain creator products, supplements). Whop has different acceptance criteria.
  • You sell internationally beyond the US/UK/EU core. Whop's payout footprint is wider than most MoRs.
  • You want crypto / stablecoin support. Whop natively handles it; Lasso doesn't (today).
  • You can ship a setup yourself. If a 10-minute self-serve onboarding feels normal to you, you don't need a managed service that bills you for white-glove setup.

When Lasso wins#

We're being honest — Lasso is the right answer if:

  • You want managed everything. Disputes, taxes, processor relationships, KYC for new geographies — all handled. You pay for that, and for some teams the price is worth it.
  • You have extreme compliance complexity (regulated categories, multi-jurisdiction sales tax) and need a single vendor to take that off your plate.
  • You want a single bill instead of separate Shopify, Whop, and Hygge invoices.
  • You don't have anyone technical on the team and can't tolerate even a 10-minute self-serve flow.

If any of those fit, Lasso is a fine choice. We mean that.

A worked pricing example#

Take a hypothetical Shopify store doing $50,000/month in revenue across 500 transactions averaging $100 each.

On Lasso (rough)#

  • Monthly base: $99 (entry tier, may be higher depending on revenue band)
  • Per-transaction: 5% of $50,000 = $2,500
  • Total: ~$2,599/month

On Hygge#

  • Monthly base: $99 (Growth tier)
  • Hygge platform fee: 0.5% of $50,000 = $250
  • Whop processor fees: ~2.9% + $0.30 × 500 = $1,600 (approximately — varies by card type and region)
  • Total: ~$1,949/month

That's a ~$650/month difference, or ~$7,800/year, in this example. The exact numbers move with your traffic mix and Whop's specific rates for your cards/region, but the structural advantage is real because Hygge's take rate is fixed and tiny relative to MoR cuts.

For lower-margin or higher-volume stores, the gap widens.

Migrating from Lasso#

If you're already on Lasso and considering a switch, the rough order is:

  1. Set up a Hygge account on a non-production Shopify store (or a development store) to test the flow.
  2. Open a Whop account and complete KYC if you don't already have one.
  3. Pick a low-traffic period to swap your live store. Uninstall Lasso (their dashboard handles the offboard) and install Hygge from your dashboard.
  4. Run a real test purchase to confirm the drawer + Shopify order sync work.
  5. Update any internal docs that mention Lasso URLs or webhooks.
